There is another good use for white papers such as this. When trying to "sell" the use of a specific technology to non-specialists (i.e., purse-string holders), this kind of thing is excellent ammunition. Many tech-savvy decision makers are not specialists, but can understand well-written technical descriptions, even though they don't have time to personally try out all the alternatives. Providing them information such as this whitepaper is a very good way to help their decision-making process. In fact, when this message arrived in my emailbox, I was in the middle of forwarding the announcement to a technically-aware consulting client, who has been back and forth about what DB-serving platform to use. Great job, Jordan!
