Re: Lasso Studio for Dreamweaver - 03/09/01
Hi Karstyn,
I ran into the same problem. On quick note, my response is related to my experience with FileMaker databases. With that, it has nothing to do with the database size. It has to do with the number of fields and how your layouts are set up. My files are a few hundred MB each and I have 150-200 fields in the file. It turns out that I had fields on my layout that were set up to display value lists. Some of these value lists were HUGE because they were set up to display all fields in the record. Within FileMaker that works fine. However, LS4DW lists every item in the value lists in the snapshot file. My database had about 5000 records. I had these huge value lists assigned to multiple fields on my layout. That is enough to make the snapshot process fail. Way too many records.
My suggestion is make sure your layouts are clean and don't have massive value lists assigned to fields.

First, there must be an art to getting a good snapshot - an art I have not come close to mastering. I just did get an almost good snapshot, it totaly missed one database, but it took literaly 3 hours of processing time! Then when trying to use the Form Builder or any of those type of tools, it can take from 2-5 min. between when I click on a button to when the screen finishes a redraw! Yes, these databases are on the larger side, but not unreasonably so. I tried to take a snapshot of 5 databases, ranging in size from 2 to 77 MB, and from 6 to 45 layouts, and from 20 to 250 fields. This must be more than LSDW can handle. I'm running an iMac SE 400 with 256 MB RAM and 100 MB of that for DW. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or am past the point were a WYSIWIG editor will be of any practicle use? If this is the case is there an easy way to uninstall LS? All suggestions welcome!
