I'm new here but I need some pointers on where to find a quantitative comparison between FileMaker and Oracle. I work at a Educational Institution. Since we may be using FileMaker soon we need some orientation and look at a feasibility study. We contain four schools: Elementary, Junior High, Senior High and a Virtual School. We have about 16,000 students and 40,000 enrollments and about 1/3 million gradables that we handle every year. We designed our Oracle db (now 8i, soon 9i) late in 1999. It was our Y2K plan. Our present db has about 80 tables. We are a distance learning organization. We track persons, students, enrollments, shipping, financial (bridge to HTE) and our provincial education system transactions (enrollments, completions, funding).
FileMaker 5.5 was released recently and I cannot find any specifications. Are there no limitations with this system or is it just limited by HW? Can you create functions and procedures? Are they compiled or interpreted? Why is there so little information like this available? or am I just not looking in the right places?
Thanks.
